Winter is Coming…

Well, Thanksgiving has now come and gone (sad day) and the temperatures continue to drop as the days grow shorter.  All these things are just a few signs that my second favorite season is upon us!  Well at least it was before I moved to the rainiest city in the rainiest part of Spain.  Santiago really makes it hard for even the most hardcore winter lover to keep their spirits from dimming and going into a full blown hibernation.  Luckily, so far we have been pretty fortunate weather wise with cold but dry weather and even a strange yellow ball of light that appears in the sky every time the wind blows the clouds away.  But I know what is coming… Winter is coming… and with it rain, endless days of rain.  So to counter act my bear like tendencies and up my productivity I have created a list of some goals for this winter.  I am going to list them here for some accountability and for the 3 other people that happen to stumble upon this blog:) (Disclaimer:  My timeline is pretty fluid as it is more weather based then month based.  I consider winter here to last as long as the rain. 😉 )

  1.  Organize and go through all my processions in my apartment and purge the stuff I have no use for and is just cluttering up my space.  I read “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” and I’m ready for it to revolutionize my life!  Japanese organization style here I come!  2016 is going to be the year of minimalism (or at least a step in the right direction;) )
  2. Loose 25-30 pounds.  That is half of what my total goal is and since my bro is getting married this summer, it’s pretty much the best time motivation wise.  Plus I’ve been working on this for years now and I have lost a good chunk and kept it off and then a little more and kept it off but the stress of cross cultural living has made it a much slower process with a lot more ups and downs then before.  But I am determined to keep at it and finally reach my goal weight!  Take that holiday weight!  I’m coming for you and your extra pounds.
  3. Find a class at the gym that I like and can go to consistently. Or at least try some of the different ones offered to see what I like.  This is one of the main reasons I joined the gym (the other was to pick up swimming again because I love the water) and I have yet to follow through on going.  Everytime I pump myself up I chicken out and just go swimming.  I think it would be a great way to meet people outside of work or school and practice my spanish so I just need to woMAN up and just do it.
  4. Learn a new hobby.  There a few things I want to try and I just haven’t followed through on learning or trying them.  One of them is learning to use the sewing machine my friend and I bought from a yard sale and have yet to use.  I also want to get back into some form of art other then photography.  Probably either some sort of painting or sketching.  I just miss that kind of stuff.  I took it for granted when I was a kid just how much access I had to music and art and other fun things that are harder to fit into an adult life.

So there it is:  My list for winter and jump start on new years and it’s resolutions.  If new goals pop up I will add them here and I will also keep all 3 of you posted on my progress as the winter goes on.  Year 33 I’m coming for you!
